I love to sew, mainly quilts and bags. I am 66, married to Fred and have one son, Matthew, who is 27. I enjoy embroidery and applique and prefer to machine piece and quilt my projects. I love my vintage Singer sewing machines especially my Featherweight 222K. I’m enjoying treadling on my 201K Singer and I collect Miniature Sewing Machines and currently have three Essex , one Singer 20, one Singer 40, two Vulcan Miniatures and my latest, a Grain. My love of sewing I believe comes from my Grandmother - I still have the drawings she made for me to embroider on tea towels many many years ago!

CHRISTMAS ALL BUTTONED UP!!

I forgot to show you in my previous post today------ I found some great Christmas buttons in Spotlight .... 3 to a card for $4.99... I have already sewn a few onto the Christmas Wallhanging. If you want to see the buttons close up, I have put them on my gallery.

Some of the gold stars have fallen off! I have had them for years so I guess the "glue" may have worn off by now! As I have a large bag of them, I'll just iron some more on:-)

Happy Sewing!

  1. The Christmas buttons are so cute. I love the personality a few buttons can bring to a quilt.

  2. Hi Helen...I just love your cute little buttons. I am going to find some here in my area. I can think of a dozen places for them!

Here is something to think about: I am offering a Pay It Forward Challange to anyone interested enough to participate. I will make a small home-made gift to each of three people who agree to do this. They, in turn, will issue the chanllange and make gifts for 3 new people. And so we all pay it forward!
You get 1 year to make your 3 gifts and you get to put the PIF logo on your site. All you have to do is comment on my site and copy the logo there! www.dmmitchell.blogspot.com

  3. Hi Helen,

What an adorable Xmas wall-hanging you made. I immediately fell in love with it. Is is your own design or is there a pattern to buy somewhere? I also do love the fabric, it's so different from the "normal" Xmas fabric.
I myself made a little wall-hanging with mini-baskets (paper piecing)and I also used some funny fabric (by Moda). I'm not completely ready yet, but it will be finished in time for Xmas.
I like the buttons, too, they are just great!
And it's very funny to read about the weather in your country, to hot to sew! I can hardly imagine that since in Holland we have winter now and it's cold and at 4 PM it's almost dark here.

    Quilting hugs,

And about the weather in your country, I can hardly imagine how that is, Xmas in Summer, to hot to sew.....here in Holland it's winter, cold and almost dark at 4 PM! What a difference!

  6. Hi everyone! Thanks for your lovely comments......... the pattern for the Wallhanging came from Homespun Magazine. It was in 3 parts, so you had to wait for the next issue to come out before you could work on the next round of blocks. The original pattern had 16 blocks, but I chose to cut it down to 9 - many of the fabrics were from my local Patchwork shop called Peppermint Stitches (in Toowong,Brisbane).
    Happy Sewing!

  7. Great minds - I bought the round buttons at Spotlight & went back for more yesterday. All I have to do is finish quilting so I can sew on the buttons!
