Quilting the Brights Baby Quilt

Where is all the "stuff" which is usually on my sewing table you ask??????

Over on the ironing board of course!!!!

Quilting now finished, just putting the binding on this one and it will be a finish for July!

As I had so much material left over from the first set of teddies, I'm building another set! This time with a yellow check background.

Here's a sneak peek at my version of Flea Market Boxes - not in any particular order, just the blocks I have completed so far.

Today we have woken up to quite a cold day, so I'm planning to spend most of the day in the sewing room. This is, of course, after we have been out for coffee - thank goodness I have more teddy blocks and siggy blocks to embroider!

I'M STILL AROUND!!

Hello! I have just had a few days away visiting my sister up at Bribie Island again - this time I took the sewing machine!! We had a lovely time, sewing, chatting, watching old movies on tele and lots of wonderful long walks - I worked on my own version of Flea Market Boxes ... the quilt I made for my Niece. We went to lots of thrift shops - I picked up a couple of old linens for my collection.

I'll be back with some pics of my quilt!

Tomorrow my Mum celebrates her 90th birthday!!! Way to go Mum!! My sister is having an open day for visiting, morning tea thru afternoon tea - this way it's not too overwhelming for Mum or the visitors!

3 BOYS AND A MUM!

Yep, I'm actually in my Unit at the Gold Coast! We left a little late on Monday, then got stuck in a traffic jam due to an accident somewhere way up ahead of us so instead of a 1 and a bit hour trip, it took about 3 hours! Anyways..... I'm here! I have been for a swim today - lovely water - took a little sun, then covered up and came home to feed the "boys"..... I now have 3 here (my own son, his best friend and now his other friend). So now that all the food is gone - these boys are 16 and eat like lumberjacks - I'm watching a lovely old show on Cable, it's all about Dean Martin and if you knew just how much I loved him when I was 12.... well, you would understand why I'm almost in tears watching it!!!!!

On my way out on Monday, I checked the mail and how lovely to find two new siggies:-) Thank You Donna and Manie!

In between swims and watching cable, I've been working on my own version of Flea Market Boxes. It's nice sitting here sewing as we have air-con and of course a lovely view.

We are heading home on Thursday evening but by then I'll be out of food and probably money and could even possibly have finished the sewing I brought with me:-) so, I'll be happy to go home!

O.K..... back to my sewing! see you all at the end of the week..... I'll be the one slightly tanned, looking a little relaxed (come on, I'm here with 3 teenagers!!) and probably a few pounds heavier (we eat out a LOT when we are here).......

QUILTING, MORE QUILTING AND THEN JUST A BIT MORE!

I am so pleased with myself!! :-) I finished the quilting on the Flea Market Boxes quilt and now I'm doing the hand sewing on the binding. I had planned to use the all machine binding method as in here but after heavily quilting it I have decided that the usual method was called for as I thought it might look a little off with the line of "quilting" on the front which results from using the all machine method. {note: I LOVE this way of attaching the binding and will use it whenever I can!} As you can see, I went just a little crazy with the quilting.... I would call it "scribbling" as opposed to meandering!

I'm just loving going to the mail-box lately.... there seems to be a new Siggy Block arriving every day! This beautiful "lace bobbin" design is from Magteld - THANK YOU Magteld, my Siggy will be on its' way to you very soon!

Today MH and I went to the Gym (boy, was it HOT) then naturally..... out for coffee!! - I continued to do the blanket stitch on the fish/whale/starfish appliques for BB's new Beach Quilt (it's coming along very well, I've added a purple to the blocks, so I have to make a few more .... it will now be 5 X 5) and of course, MH read the newspaper:-) Now I'm in the sewing room working on some more Siggy Blocks so I always have one on hand to post away.

BACK IN BUSINESS!

Thanks to a sewing machine fix-it man, I'm back quilting! It turned out to be just a little pin which had come out (I was sewing VERY fast!) and would you believe it..... I found it in the quilt!

I've decided to send my Siggy swap friends a Christmas Siggy, here is the first one I have sent.

My Holly Jolly Christmas Wallhanging is now almost 100% complete.... just need to dig into my stash of buttons and sew a few around the border (this will cover up a few glitches in my quilting!) I used two different fabrics for the binding..... they were all I had left!! I will put a label on it, will do that through the week. It's hard to pick it, but there is a hanging sleeve at the top! I used the leftover bits from the edges after I had finished quilting it.

Back to quilting the Flea Market Boxes! Almost all the way around..... hooray :-)

FLEA MARKET BOXES

   It's been a strange couple of weeks.  Firstly, we did not get away to the Gold Coast as planned.  Staying home was not a problem for me, as I had plenty of sewing to keep me happy!  During the week Brisbane was hit by a terrible dust storm.  It was a horrible day.  Red dust absolutely everywhere!  We stayed indoors with everything shut up tight, but still every benchtop, cupboard, book-case and floor was covered in a fine layer of red dust.  We started cleaning up, but then the weather report suggested we might get another storm by the week-end.... and sure enough on Saturday afternoon the wind picked up and the storm arrived through the night.  It was very hard to breathe and once again our home was covered with red dust.    I think the big clean-up can wait a few more days!  We have had water restrictions here for a long time, but it looks like they will be lifted for a few days so we can hose down our homes and cars etc etc.  So looks like next week will be a "housework" week!

   My quilting project for the past few days has been the Flea Market Boxes quilt.  I have had the blocks cut out for months, all neatly packed in a zip-lock bag, so it was an easy quilt to work on.  I'm making it for my Niece Mahala.  I think she will love the retro fabrics and the brightness of the quilt.  

 I have joined a siggy swap with Annelies van den Bergh in The Netherlands and have sent my first siggy away this week.  The block is from the "Dear Jane" quilt, block D13 - square in a 

square.

Yesterday we went down to the Gold Coast for an afternoon swim and coffee.  It was lovely down there and even though it was only for the day, it made up for not getting down there last week.

It's back to school on Monday and I am happy to see the end of this school holiday.  Next Friday my friends and I are heading off to the Gold Coast for a "girls week-end".  We are stopping at a few patchwork shops and having our own "ruler workshop" - we have so many rulers that we want to play with.... wave ruler, x-block ruler, wonder-cut ruler .... so many rulers and so many quilts we could make with them!!!!!  But! first we have to figure out HOW to use them!!  We'll have lots of fun I am sure.

I'm off to cut the backing for the Flea Market Boxes quilt so I can get it finished over this coming week-end,
