I love to sew, mainly quilts and bags. I am 66, married to Fred and have one son, Matthew, who is 27. I enjoy embroidery and applique and prefer to machine piece and quilt my projects. I love my vintage Singer sewing machines especially my Featherweight 222K. I’m enjoying treadling on my 201K Singer and I collect Miniature Sewing Machines and currently have three Essex , one Singer 20, one Singer 40, two Vulcan Miniatures and my latest, a Grain. My love of sewing I believe comes from my Grandmother - I still have the drawings she made for me to embroider on tea towels many many years ago!

GIVE-A-WAY TIME!

In celebration of winning the fabulous christmas fabric prize from The Fat Quarter Shop and also to celebrate reaching 100 followers, I'm having a
GIVE-A-WAY!

First Prize is the Pick-a-Pocket Bag
(to enter, you MUST be one of my current 102 followers)

This is ONE bag - different fabrics on each side!
I made this one a little different to the pattern....
I have stitched the outside pockets down along the bottom of the bag, as I found that items would sneak under the bag and I would spend ages looking for them!
and..

I have added pockets to the inside of the bag..   a girl can't have enough pockets!!
I have made a firm base to slide into the bottom of the bag too as that helps keep the bag in shape!

Why did I use different fabrics in constructing this bag???    because my prize was Fat Quarters! so there was not enough of any one fabric to make the bag in the usual way!

Second Prize!!
(winner will be chosen from follower # 103 onwards)
A Christmas shopping bag!

This is a great pattern by Geta at Geta's Quilting Studio - check out Geta's site as she has many patterns, some free and others you can buy.
Once again, this is just ONE bag, using different fabrics on each side.  It is also fully reversible!

Now to the rules of this give-a-way.....

1.  First Prize will be awarded to one of my CURRENT FOLLOWERS - please leave a comment that you are one of my now 102 followers!

2.  Second Prize will be awarded to one of my NEW followers who becomes a follower as a result of reading about my give-a-way!!  Please leave a comment.

3.  Please note, if you are a "no reply" status in your profile, your entry is not valid.  If you wish to enter my give-a-way competition, please check your profile status.

Okay, so that's it!!   This give-a-way will run until midnight November 22nd, 2010  (Brisbane time :-))

Thanks everyone!   Give-a-ways are lots of fun - I've made the rules easy-peasy ..  so let the give-a-way begin!!

I HAVE A PAPER DOLL TO CALL MY OWN!

Paper Doll FABRIC that is!!!  My wonderful prize arrived in last nights mail - here is how it looked when I opened the parcel.

I've since opened it up and all of the fabric is so lovely!  I can't wait to make something with it.  It's called "Paper Doll Christmas".

As promised, the first thing I will make is a bag for a CHRISTMAS GIVE-A-WAY.  So keep your eye out for a give-a-way announcement very soon:-)

This is the latest bag I have made.  It's a pattern by Rebeka Lambert from artsy-crafty babe patterns.  This is a fun bag to make - I will be taking it to the Craft Show tomorrow and most probably will fill it up!  Right now it has the Breast Cancer Bags in it to deliver at the show.

Rebeka designed the bag with re-purposing in mind..... she suggests using vintage sheets (I'll be keeping my eye out for them at the local thrift shops now!)  You need around 2 1/2 yards of fabric - I was lucky to have a piece of antique fabric in my stash.  That's the green floral I have used for the outside of the bag.  It's very old fabric and I think this bag pattern is just perfect for it.  On the inside I used a piece of batik type fabric which has been in my stash for years so I was very happy to find a use for it at last.  The bag is completely reversible, so the batik look will be nice for the beach.  (sorry, forgot to take a pic of the inside!)

ONE YEAR OF BLOGGING AND ONE HUNDRED POSTS!!

COMMENTS NOW CLOSED
Well, it's finally here...... my one year blogiversary and my one hundredth post!! I've had a fantastic year. I just love blogland and all that comes with it! There are so many talented people out there and it's so wonderful that they share their knowledge and ideas.

Now, I know you are all waiting to find out what my give-a-way prize is,
so............... TA-DAH!!

Of course!! it had to be a bag!

with a matching tissue holder, tea/coffee wallet and coaster
plus a nifty Envirosax (the original designer reusable bag)

the other side of the bag

See the coffee bags and tea bags?
or you could use it for rewards cards or store cards!

The bag pattern is the Pick-a-pocket purse from allpeoplequilt.com, Designer: Monica Solorio-Snow of Happy Zombie (thehappyzombie.com). Thanks Monica!

The tea wallet pattern came from The Sewing Calendar 2010, September 27,28 & 29. Designed by Christy Hemby - christyscreations.com. Thanks Christy! (the huge button on the front is extremely old, probably an antique)

The tissue holder is made using a great super easy tutorial I found at Melinda Quilts Etc. Thanks Melinda!

The Envirosax shopping bag is so cute, it's ethically made, waterproof, fully washable - won't fade, tested for strength & safety and super strong, will hold 20Kg (44lbs), also carbon offset by planting rainforest trees AND it's fashionable & fun! I purchased this one at my LQS - Thanks Liisa!!

I decided to make the pick-a-pocket bag, as I really love making this pattern and also, I had received so many lovely comments on the bag in my header but I was not able to purchase any more of the same fabrics but I think the fabrics I have chosen are very similar!

Now, how to run this give-a-way........

It's pretty simple, just be a follower who leaves a comment on this post! Really, that's it!!

....and I think I'll use Lynda's method of Random Generator - Yep, the old hand in the bowl method, works every time!!! Go check out Lynda's blog - oh yes indeed..... ANOTHER GIVE-A-WAY!!

....and when will this bundle of goodies be drawn I hear you ask??!!

AUGUST 28th
(which could be August 27th where you live!!!)

so you have one week to enter. Of course you can tell your friends!! Of course you can blog about it and of course you can grab my button, but that won't get you any more entries in the draw... sorry, but I'm trying to keep this simple, O.K. people???

Oh, and one more thing..... you can enter if you live across the street from me or across the Pacific or anywhere else in the world!!!

As I have a week before the give-a-way closes, I could even add a few more items into the parcel!!

So thanks everyone! It will be one exciting week! I will be posting during the week if I have any show and tell, so until then........

Happy Sewing!

YES SIR, YES SIR.... THREE BAGS FULL!

I was able to finish another bag last night and one more today...

This a better photo of the first one!
Three bags, all ready for the Cazna Gardens Ekka Day!

I have had a lovely two days working on these. I listen to my I Tunes when I sew..... look away if you can't stand Country & Western Music or "old" stuff!!..... Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, Charlie Pride, Sonny James, Mickey Gilley, Roy Orbison, Connie Francis, Brenda Lee and Dean Martin - just to name a few!! I can listen to this music all day, every day - it's good to listen to when ironing also!!

In the middle of making bags, I made a few more siggy blocks too, as suddenly I have none left in my stash!

Hope the weekend is going well for everyone!

Happy Sewing!
