I love to sew, mainly quilts and bags. I am 63, married to Fred and have one son, Matthew who is 25. I enjoy embroidery and applique and prefer to machine piece and quilt my projects. I love my vintage Singer sewing machines especially my Featherweight 222K. I've recently started collecting Miniature Sewing Machines, three Essex , one Singer 20. one Singer 40 and a Vulcan Countess. My love of sewing I believe comes from my Grandmother - I still have the drawings she made for me to embroider on tea towels many many years ago!

I've been posting quite regularly to my Facebook page lately but not so much to my Blog.  If only there was a Facebook thinggy to "post to Blog" from your Facebook page but sadly there is not.  I realise there are many of my Followers who don't  DO  Facebook so every now and then I will bring you up to date here on the blog with "stuff" I've been posting over on FB.  This first group of photos is all about some SECRET sewing I am doing.  Everyone's been taking a guess at what these applique blocks are but so far no one has come close!  Tonight I prepped the third block (there will be five applique blocks and some pieced blocks in between)

Intrigued?  well, I'm hoping to get the applique finished by the end of this week and then I will do a "REVEAL"   This deadline will depend on our weather..... we have been having awfully hot and humid days AGAIN!   really not sewing weather!

Blooper of the week.....  I stitched the binding strips together for the Zoo Quilt yesterday and I cannot believe it but I stitched them all with the diagonal stitching going in the wrong direction!  So I have a bit of reverse sewing to be done on that project!

The Craft Show arrives in Brisbane this Thursday...  and you know what that means!   Shopping!  It's amazing how you think there can't possibly be anything to buy that you don't already have but somehow I always come home with a bag full of goodies!  I usually make a new bag for the Show, I wonder if I can fit that in before Friday?

Happy Sewing!
Cheers from Helen

  1. I had been thinking about you lately. I just put in a friend request on your facebook! I think it is an applique quilt with animals.

  2. Oh dear...that reverse sewing is so time consuming!!! The applique looks really interesting. I hope you update it on the blog too.

  3. Is it a cat Helen? I'm off now to find your facebook page.
