I love to sew, mainly quilts and bags. I am 66, married to Fred and have one son, Matthew, who is 27. I enjoy embroidery and applique and prefer to machine piece and quilt my projects. I love my vintage Singer sewing machines especially my Featherweight 222K. I’m enjoying treadling on my 201K Singer and I collect Miniature Sewing Machines and currently have three Essex , one Singer 20, one Singer 40, two Vulcan Miniatures and my latest, a Grain. My love of sewing I believe comes from my Grandmother - I still have the drawings she made for me to embroider on tea towels many many years ago!

MEANDERING STARS

I have finished the meandering on the centre of the quilt. Changing the bobbin made all the difference... go figure! I was asking for trouble using white thread in the top and black thread in the bobbin, but actually the back looks quite good and only a few little white specks showing through! I had hoped to get the binding on today, but I need to visit my LQS and purchase more fabric and would you believe it..... I woke up with the cough that I was supposed to get last week with my cold!! I've had a very slow day, no real sewing... but I have sorted out the remaining brights fabrics which I had cut at the same time as this quilt... I'm making another version of this one for our friends grandson. Sometimes making two quilts the same is a good thing, as I have learnt quite a lot cutting and making the first one, so the second one should go together quickly. Certainly I will be pressing the seams open, this should alleviate a lot of the bulk.

KWIK KLIP.... I've been asked to "tell more" about this wonderful little invention... if you click on this link you will see a demonstration. I don't use the plastic pin covers, but I do use the kwik klip every time I close up the quilting pins. I love sewing gadgets that are really useful and this is one of them!!! Another item I recently added to the gadget box is my telescopic magnet. I just move it over the carpet and up come all those pins, needles, safety pins etc etc which have been dropped during a sewing day! ... and I don't have to kneel down to find them - the magnet does it all!

Happy Sewing!

  1. You are full of helpful hints this morning. Well it may not be morning there but it is here. I never thought about the telescopic magnet, what a great idea. I try to wear some kind of shoes when I go in my sewing room for that reason.

  2. I am so glad that the bobbin change took care of all those frustrations. Funny what can do it, isn't it?

  3. Looking good. Always nice to figure out a problem. I'm working on 2 of the same quilt right now too. Your right, you do learn a lot from the first one.
