I love to sew, mainly quilts and bags. I am 66, married to Fred and have one son, Matthew, who is 27. I enjoy embroidery and applique and prefer to machine piece and quilt my projects. I love my vintage Singer sewing machines especially my Featherweight 222K. I’m enjoying treadling on my 201K Singer and I collect Miniature Sewing Machines and currently have three Essex , one Singer 20, one Singer 40, two Vulcan Miniatures and my latest, a Grain. My love of sewing I believe comes from my Grandmother - I still have the drawings she made for me to embroider on tea towels many many years ago!

WHERE'S THE BEACH?

There's something fishy going on here.....

Yes, another little quilt for my darling little B.B. (beautiful Bridget). I figured the girl just had to have a quilt to take to the beach!

Really, I decided to make this one so I still have some hand sewing to take when MH (my husband) and I go out for coffee which you will by now have noticed we do a lot!!

I probably will only do 4 x 4 blocks and I'm thinking about putting beach towel fringing around it instead of binding. Just hope I can still buy cotton fringing, it's probably gone off the market by now. {note: the picture with blocks and borders is the pattern, NOT my quilt! The pattern is from QUILT magazine June/July 2009} Sorry for any confusion! :)

The blocks still need some features, but they're supposed to be a whale, fish and starfish!

I know my Niece is probably going to say "not another quilt Aunty Henny!!" but I just can't help myself!!

I've just been out to see if I could pick up a fabric for the backing on the Poppy Quilt, but no luck today. Tomorrow I'll head off to Spotlight as I know they have a mottled black wide backing fabric.

The skies are heavy with an impending storm....... please let it rain for more than a few minutes! We so desperately need it!

Happy Sewing!

  3. Honestly Helen, I go to the other side of the country for a few days & you just go mad. As usual everything is looking great. Sorry I won't get to see the completed poppy quilt before it's presented but the part I did see was great (not unexpected from you of course). Looking forward to seeing the Christmas & beach works on Friday.
