I love to sew, mainly quilts and bags. I am 66, married to Fred and have one son, Matthew, who is 27. I enjoy embroidery and applique and prefer to machine piece and quilt my projects. I love my vintage Singer sewing machines especially my Featherweight 222K. I’m enjoying treadling on my 201K Singer and I collect Miniature Sewing Machines and currently have three Essex , one Singer 20, one Singer 40, two Vulcan Miniatures and my latest, a Grain. My love of sewing I believe comes from my Grandmother - I still have the drawings she made for me to embroider on tea towels many many years ago!

CHRISTMAS WALL HANGING - ALMOST FINISHED!

Piece by piece, it's getting there!!

I've been working on the embellishments and frames for the blocks today. You can see close-ups of the blocks in my gallery. At last, Santa kind of looks like Santa - except for his piggy looking nose!

The Gingerbread Man will get some ric-rac soon - I can't believe this, but I actually don't have any! This must be some kind of first for me....... as my friends will confirm - I usually have anything and everything you could ever need when it comes to sewing!!

At last the Jingle Bells finally look like bells and not oranges! I am trying to use up as many Christmas buttons I can on this quilt. I have had a little plastic bag full of buttons and stars etc for years and just wanted to use them up so I can move onto a new collection.

Poor teddy still has no face, but hopefully I will work on that tomorrow!

I had a lovely surprise in the mail on Friday! .... another Siggy Block. This one is from Marjo van Oers in the Netherlands. I have sent Marjo my siggy block (see my gallery). It is very exciting to receive these little parcels in the mail - I wonder how many Siggies I will get and what I will do with them?

Today I washed the Flanders Poppies fabrics, getting them ready to make a quilt for my Dad's RSL (Returned Services League) club. Dad passed away last year and this quilt will be dedicated to him and will be presented to the RSL on November 11th (Remembrance Day). I'm going to make a Star, similar to the one the girls and I made with our Wonder-cut ruler. If you would like to read more about the symbol of the Poppy, click on the link above and open up Symbolism - Poppy.

Happy Sewing,

  1. Great post as usual although I really don't believe that you of all people have no ric-rac, are you sure that you've looked everywhere? Really looking forward to seeing the poppy quilt.

  2. Your wall hanging is so lovely. Has it been fun to work on? I can't remember if you are going to keep it or give it away.

  3. Hi Nancy,
Yes, I have enjoyed the applique and embroidery on the Xmas Wall-hanging - it's so bright! I'm planning on hanging it the front entry of our home, I usually have a Redwork Santa hanging there so he can go somewhere else this Xmas! Thanks for your lovely comments!
