I love to sew, mainly quilts and bags. I am 66, married to Fred and have one son, Matthew, who is 27. I enjoy embroidery and applique and prefer to machine piece and quilt my projects. I love my vintage Singer sewing machines especially my Featherweight 222K. I’m enjoying treadling on my 201K Singer and I collect Miniature Sewing Machines and currently have three Essex , one Singer 20, one Singer 40, two Vulcan Miniatures and my latest, a Grain. My love of sewing I believe comes from my Grandmother - I still have the drawings she made for me to embroider on tea towels many many years ago!

ANOTHER PLATE FOR MY COLLECTION

I haven't mentioned this before, but along with sewing and quilting, I am a collector of old chinaware. I just love old plates, bowls, platters, jugs, sugar bowls etc etc. In my home I have a very long and winding china rail, it goes all the way around my open plan lounge/dining area and I still have plenty of room up there!

Yesterday, my husband and I took a drive up to Fernvale to the markets - he bought a new log splitter handle (as you do) and I bought a plate!.. of course! If you are in Brisbane and have time, a trip on a Sunday morning to these markets is well worthwhile, they have just about everything you could ever want! It's a great place for plants.

I was very excited to get the new plate, as I was almost 100% certain that it matched a platter I already owned...... and it did!!

The first picture is the new plate and underneath is the one I already owned.

On a quilting note, I've got my shopping list ready for the craft show on Wednesday, can't wait!

Happy Sewing!

  1. Your plate is lovely. Do you use them or just display them? I got some beautiful plates from my mother in laws home. I try to use them on holidays.

  3. Hi Nancy,
Yes, I use a lot of them - but also have a few up high on the china rail for show. Now and then those ones come down for a lunch or dinner. I keep collecting more, but one day I will have to stop! I also collect old Linens - fancy work we call it - I love old embroidered tablecloths, tray mats, table runners, duchess sets etc etc.
