I love to sew, mainly quilts and bags. I am 66, married to Fred and have one son, Matthew, who is 27. I enjoy embroidery and applique and prefer to machine piece and quilt my projects. I love my vintage Singer sewing machines especially my Featherweight 222K. I’m enjoying treadling on my 201K Singer and I collect Miniature Sewing Machines and currently have three Essex , one Singer 20, one Singer 40, two Vulcan Miniatures and my latest, a Grain. My love of sewing I believe comes from my Grandmother - I still have the drawings she made for me to embroider on tea towels many many years ago!

CHRISTMAS WALL HANGING

The new christmas wall-hanging for this year will be a pattern from Australian Homespun magazine --  It's A Holly Jolly Christmas.  The original pattern has 16 blocks, but my version will only have 9.  I already have some of them partially completed.  I've done the blanket stitching (I like this tutorial-very clear and exact) and here is another tutorial BUT -I actually do my blanket stitch a little differently, I believe it's called the English version.  I have left the features and embellishments till the end.  Each block will have a patchwork border and then I will add a final border of a novelty christmas print, instead of doing all of the extra applique as in the original.  I might give in and perhaps do just one corner with applique, not sure yet.  You can see the blocks I am using in my gallery.

Tomorrow, we are heading down to the Gold Coast for 4 days.  I have lots of stitching to take with me and a couple of good books.  I'm taking Bridget's Farm Quilt blocks and also the Christmas blocks, so even if it rains the whole time I will still have plenty to keep me occupied!
There are a couple of Patchwork shops in the vicinity as well so I'll be checking those out!  I'm still building the stash for the Popsicle Posies Quilt.

Happy Sewing!

  1. I love that wall hanging. I ended up not taking my machine to the coast for the weekend. I did take my hand quilting but got interested in a book yesterday and didn't work on it. Have a great weekend

  2. I finally had a chance to check out your blog. I so like it! I looked at everything in your album and I am impressed by the sheer number of completed projects. That means I am so jealous. I love your "first quilt". The colors are warm and mellow and the hand work is beautiful. Keep checking back with me and I will do the same.
    Peace, missd

  3. Thank You! My "first quilt" came as a quarterly mail out and I recall that I "overlocked" the edges (I had no knowledge of quilting at this stage) and hand tacked every seam to ensure they butted up nicely. I have come a long way since this first quilt. It hangs in our hallway and apart from Christmas wall-hangings and Ednas Four Seasons which hangs in my sewing room, it is the only quilt I have up on the wall! I do however have a selection of Table Runners which take their turn on our dining room table.
