I love to sew, mainly quilts and bags. I am 66, married to Fred and have one son, Matthew, who is 27. I enjoy embroidery and applique and prefer to machine piece and quilt my projects. I love my vintage Singer sewing machines especially my Featherweight 222K. I’m enjoying treadling on my 201K Singer and I collect Miniature Sewing Machines and currently have three Essex , one Singer 20, one Singer 40, two Vulcan Miniatures and my latest, a Grain. My love of sewing I believe comes from my Grandmother - I still have the drawings she made for me to embroider on tea towels many many years ago!

MORE ABOUT ME

PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO THE BOTTOM TO READ THE LATEST.....

It was such fun listing 7 things about me following receiving the Versatile Blogger award, I thought I would keep it going..............

8. Where in PNG did I live? ...... we had a unit in Port Moresby but were able to travel all over the country - Goroka, Lae, Rabaul, Madang and probably a few places I have forgotten about :-)

Yes, that's me!
9. I used to love fishing (and still would if I got the chance!). My Dad took us (I'm one of 5) fishing EVERY school holiday starting when I was only about 5 right through to age 22 or 23. Not boat fishing (although Dad went out in his boat) .. BEACH fishing! I also learnt to catch beach worms (actually made a living from this for a short time). We fished over on Stradbroke Island which had the BEST spots - when I was very little, we owned an old American Army Jeep - and I always got to sit in the tiny space in the middle where the gears were!

My sister, on our Jeep
Well, that's enough for one day - I'm going to dig out some photos to show you a little of my life in PNG and of course, one in my fishing clothes (usually old army shirts and very brief bikinis!!) and oh yes, the beautiful floppy hats Mum used to make for us!

Well, I have finally found some of the photos to share with you........
WEWAK, Papua New Guinea
my memories of this place ..  it was like going back in time
and the housegirls used to cut the Palmolive soap in half and
you got a fresh piece every day (and of course, they took the
used piece home!)

Who is that skinnymini??  Oh, it's ME!  Here I am at the Boroko
Markets - this one was in the main street, just outside
the Deli.  I recall once when I tapped a watermelon (like you do!)
and the girl told me that I had to buy it because I'd hit it!

The view we had from our balcony - we lived in a lovely unit
on Ela Beach.  I never tired of this view.
The plane we used to catch to go
between Islands in Samoa

This is my Mum, she came for a visit in 1990.
This was taken in Western Samoa.
Traditional Fale (house or meeting place)
You can see the beautiful Fine Mats on the
floor.  They were very special.
Here is Mum again (yes, if only I had that figure!)
This was at one of the famous beaches in
Western Samoa.

O.K., back in Papua New Guinea - I think this was taken in Rabaul or Lae, both beautiful places, very traditional market.

DECEMBER 22ND, 2010

Today is our Wedding Anniversary!   We were married in 1984.....

We were married on Custom's Wharf here in Brisbane.  It was a sweltering hot day!  My Mum made all the little outfits the children wore.  I had my Nieces and Nephew as my attendants!  My sister and sister-in-law made my cake - the caterers said it was the best wedding cake they had ever cut into.. yes, my sister makes a good cake!  I wore a bought outfit from a clothing store.. I walked in about two weeks before the wedding and the ladies in the shop were amazed that I was there to buy a wedding dress - I found a beautiful crepe skirt and top with lace overlay and the top was reversible so it could be worn with buttons either at the front or back.  A good friend did the flowers for me.  We had the wedding service on the wharf, then went on the boat for a four hour river cruise - it was wonderful.

This is the closest I came to wearing a "proper" wedding outfit!!  My Mum made the BEST fancy dress costumes!!

THANK YOU! Flying Blind on a Rocket Cycle for awarding AuntyHennys with the Stylish Blogger Award!

I have to now tell you all 7 things about me....
(I could just cheat and say "please read everything above!!"... but I won't do that!

1.   I am 5'2" tall  (yep, a shortie!)
2.   I married when I was 28 and had my first and     only baby when I was 38.
3.   I sold "Hobbytex" when I was in my early 20's - you remember Hobbytex, don't you?  It was the roll on fabric paint - I still have some!!
4.   I can't cook.  Plain and simple!
5.   I finished High School in Year 10 (it was what girls did back then).  I went to Secretarial School and then out to work by the time I was 16.  I was a shorthand/typist way back when and worked in Offices all of my working years and loved every minute of it!  I can still type mighty fast!!!
6.  I don't do gardening!!!  I don't mind hosing now and then!  I can kill a potted plant just by looking at it:-)
7.  I can only drive an Automatic car -   hey, I was in a hurry (finally ran out of boyfriends to drive me around and went for my drivers licence when I was about 19)

So there you have 7 things "about me".... hope you get a laugh and enjoy learning this stuff!!
