I love to sew, mainly quilts and bags. I am 66, married to Fred and have one son, Matthew, who is 27. I enjoy embroidery and applique and prefer to machine piece and quilt my projects. I love my vintage Singer sewing machines especially my Featherweight 222K. I’m enjoying treadling on my 201K Singer and I collect Miniature Sewing Machines and currently have three Essex , one Singer 20, one Singer 40, two Vulcan Miniatures and my latest, a Grain. My love of sewing I believe comes from my Grandmother - I still have the drawings she made for me to embroider on tea towels many many years ago!

SEWING ON MY SINGER!

CIVIL WAR QUILT   BLOCK # 24   LADIES' AID ALBUM
I took this photo last night, just after I had finished sewing,
should have given it a better press!

I finally sat down last night and set up my Singer 201K.  I read the book, checked out everything, put a new needle in, threaded it up and away I went!!!    I can't tell you just how beautifully this machine sews!  It's extremely quiet, hums along steadily and sews absolutely straight!!  I put a piece of blue painters tape to mark my 1/4" and my block pieced up to be exactly 8-1/2" square!  Spot on!!  The stitches are very neat - I even played with the reverse lever to make sure it worked!  I love how you just put the needle down at the beginning, turn the flywheel and move the knee shifter to the right and away she goes!!!

This block called for a fussy cut 3-1/2" square for the centre - I used my "Get Squared" ruler by June Tailor - cuts a perfect fussy cut square!!

Catching up on some housework today :-(  but once I'm done with that, I will be back working on the Royal Critters quilt.   You thought I just sat and sewed ALL day, didn't you?!   but every now and then one MUST sweep the floors!!

Happy Sewing!!

  1. I am so happy for you! Nothing runs like the old machines! You mentioned something about floors needing sweeping? Is that why there are threads all over my house? Must look into this sweeping thing.

  6. I love my Singer Featherweight. Is your model older than the featherweight? I agree with Corina, nothing sews like an old machine. Can we count ourselves as "old machines"?
