I love to sew, mainly quilts and bags. I am 66, married to Fred and have one son, Matthew, who is 27. I enjoy embroidery and applique and prefer to machine piece and quilt my projects. I love my vintage Singer sewing machines especially my Featherweight 222K. I’m enjoying treadling on my 201K Singer and I collect Miniature Sewing Machines and currently have three Essex , one Singer 20, one Singer 40, two Vulcan Miniatures and my latest, a Grain. My love of sewing I believe comes from my Grandmother - I still have the drawings she made for me to embroider on tea towels many many years ago!

QUEENSLAND FLOOD

So many of the blogs in Australia are talking about the terrible flooding which is occurring in Queensland right now.  Yesterday and today have been horrific, with so much loss of life and property.  Brisbane (where I live) has been warned to brace itself for the worst flooding we have seen in 35 years.  I was living in Brisbane when the 1974 flood hit, it was terrible.  I'm prepared...  baths full of water, candles and torches at the ready.  Enough food in the pantry.  I am very fortunate to live up high on a hill, although many streets in my area are now cut off.  I have found that the ABC website is a good place to get updates.  The Courier Mail also has a website with regular updates.

It's very heartwarming to receive so many emails checking on how we are all coping.  Thank you!

Although sewing is the last thing on anyone's mind at the moment, Gum Tree Designers have put out the call for "New Beginnings" sewing kits to send out via the various Quilting groups in Queensland.   Click on the link to read more about the sewing kits and to find out how you can help.

Although one would think that I would be sewing away with not much else to do, I find myself glued to the TV watching the news unfold.  Sadly, there is more heartbreaking news yet to come, as the floodwaters make their way down to Brisbane.  Right now the rain has eased, so that's something.
