I love to sew, mainly quilts and bags. I am 66, married to Fred and have one son, Matthew, who is 27. I enjoy embroidery and applique and prefer to machine piece and quilt my projects. I love my vintage Singer sewing machines especially my Featherweight 222K. I’m enjoying treadling on my 201K Singer and I collect Miniature Sewing Machines and currently have three Essex , one Singer 20, one Singer 40, two Vulcan Miniatures and my latest, a Grain. My love of sewing I believe comes from my Grandmother - I still have the drawings she made for me to embroider on tea towels many many years ago!

MUG RUG # 2 AND KING PARROTS

No!  it's NOT our Spike in fancy dress!! - it's a KING PARROT  (link)

King Parrots
and more King Parrots!

MUG RUG # 2 - front

BACK OF MUG RUG # 2

Today I pieced the other Mug Rug.  I have used a selection of sewing notion fabric plus a tea cup/pot fabric and cupcake fabric.  Once again I have used the single binding method, this time cutting it at
1 1/2".  This method is really perfect for these little mug rugs!  I chose the green for the binding as it seemed to bring out the greens in all the other fabric.... and because it was the first fabric I picked up:-)

The King Parrots came to visit me yesterday!  Usually they are in pairs but I was very surprised to find about 6 of them on my deck!  I tried to take a couple of close-ups when they were sitting on my verandah railings but they are quite timid and most of them flew away.

Happy Sewing!!

  1. I'm getting King parrots on my deck too. Had them in the surrounding trees before but never on the deck until this year. Something to do with the weird weather perhaps.
Great mug rugs but I expect nothing less from you. The prolific output of you & Morag that I saw yesterday has encouraged me to get the machine out today & do some piecing. Also finished the eyes on my farm animals.
See what a wonderful inspiration you are :)

  2. Love the mug rug, but those parrots take some beating!
They make our Robins and the odd Wood Pigeon seem rather dull - I did see a road-kill pheasant the other morning, but not quite the same thing!

  5. The Parrots are gorgeous. I love to watch the birds at our place too but we only have small ones. Like Wrens.
