I love to sew, mainly quilts and bags. I am 66, married to Fred and have one son, Matthew, who is 27. I enjoy embroidery and applique and prefer to machine piece and quilt my projects. I love my vintage Singer sewing machines especially my Featherweight 222K. I’m enjoying treadling on my 201K Singer and I collect Miniature Sewing Machines and currently have three Essex , one Singer 20, one Singer 40, two Vulcan Miniatures and my latest, a Grain. My love of sewing I believe comes from my Grandmother - I still have the drawings she made for me to embroider on tea towels many many years ago!

TODAY'S SHOW AND TELL

As I said earlier, it was raining.... but then it stopped but it's been a lovely cool and windy afternoon - just perfect for playing in the sewing room........

Another applique project is ready for stitching.. today I built an owl... I found the pattern at Amazing Mae's. Once again I have used whatever scrap fabrics I had in the drawer - I think he looks cute:-) As the owl had many pieces, I first built him on my applique mat, then ironed him as one piece onto my tea towel. He will get little buttons for eyes.

The Farm Quilt is now ready to be pinned and quilted. Today I joined the backing fabric and cleaned up the back of the quilt - so many threads!!! I have enough of the backing fabric left to make B.B. a pillow case to match her new quilt!

Building the owl on my applique sheet

Here he is, in one piece ready to iron
onto my tea towel

and here he is in place on the
tea towel
This is the farm quilt, I love the
backing! Tomorrow I will pin it ready
for quilting.

Hope everyone is having a lovely day,

Happy Sewing!

  1. Backing fabric is just perfect. Love the owl, not at all evil like the one in the magazine the other day.

  2. I love the farm quilt. It is going to be so cute. Your dish towels are really nice. I made a few of those but didn't want to use them for such a long time. Now I have them hanging on my oven door for everyone to see.

  3. What a cute owl. I love it. I had just bought an applique mat myself the other day, and I wasn’t really sure if I could build up my design and then transfer the whole thing - but you have just showed me that you can! Thanks. The backing on your quilt is so lovely.
